In Breezes and Gusts for Flute doubling Alto Flute and Cello (2021)

Program notes:

Having lived in Hong Kong for 20 years I have never expected that the Midwest is extremely windy compared to what I was used to. I only realised the reason later that Bowling Green is both near the lakes, and has an extremely flat terrain, contrary to the mountainous terrain in Hong Kong.  

 

In Winds and Gusts uses different extended techniques, such as breath tone in the flute, artificial harmonic glissandi in the cello to imitate the winds and gusts. The piece is divided into three sections, with each section employing specific set of techniques to emulate different levels of winds and gusts.
