‘Scars’ have a dual meaning in this piece, the first being its literal meaning: wounds that have never been healed, while the second is past events that are so traumatic that they left a ‘scar’ in one’s memory. Unhealed Scars attempts to depict the persistent mental and emotional stress caused by the traumatic events through unapologetically harsh timbres in the violin part (achieved by contemporary techniques), heavily processed and distorted violin sounds in the fixed media part, juxtaposed with a helpless, desperate yearning section in the middle of the piece.
