Program notes:
I have always wanted to explore the use of harmonics in string instruments. This piece is centred around a three-note motif, with multiple vigorous methods of presenting harmonics or combining harmonics with different techniques. I employed harmonics throughout the piece as a representation of the shimmering tides. As the music develops, the tides become increasingly violent, with it depicted by the ‘noisier’ timbre, as opposed to the crystal clear timbre of the harmonics.
